In-Home Dog Training: The Best Option!

James River Dog Training proudly offers professional in-home dog training to Richmond and the surrounding areas. We offer in-home dog training because our experience has proven that in-home training is the best way to resolve dog behavior problems.

In-home dog training is appropriate for all dog behavior problems. Some of the problems we frequently resolve are:

  • Aggression of all kinds: dog, human, food, resource guarding, etc.
  • Hyperactivity – Your dog might have a lot of energy and a bubbly personality, but that doesn’t mean your house has to be his own personal dog park!
  • Excessive behaviors like barking, chewing, or digging
  • Separation anxiety – this CAN be overcome!
  • Leash behaviors like leash pulling, leash reactivity (barking, lunging), or refusing to walk
  • Poor manners, such as jumping on people, charing the front door, counter surfing, mouthing/nipping, humping, etc.
  • Unreliable obedience

Best of all, our in-home dog training programs are all-inclusive. During the initial behavior consultation, we’ll fully evaluate and observe your dog. We’ll design a training plan that addresses the issues you’re concerned about, but we’ll also include any other behavior issues in the plan. We believe in training the whole dog, and not just applying band-aid solutions to dog behavior problems. Band-aids always lose their stickiness, but a well-rounded, professionally designed behavior modification plan does not fade.

Why not offer group classes?

Group classes can be a great way to teach certain new skills, like basic obedience commands. However, group classes aren’t an effective way to address and resolve dog behavior issues, particularly those that occur in the home.

By nature, group classes require the instructor’s time to be split among the attendees. With in-home dog training, not only do you and your dog receive one-on-one attention, but you also receive customized solutions that take into account all of the variables that may be influencing your dog’s behavior! No cookie cutter solutions!

Why not offer a board & train?

Many owners of dogs with behavior issues have been told by professional dog trainers that the only way they will train the dog is through a board & train. While these professionals probably have good reasons for that recommendation, that’s just not the way we do business.

We believe in, and utilize, an in-home dog training approach because we value the impact your relationship with your dog has on his/her behavior. Canine behavior problems rarely occur when the relationship between dog and owner is balanced. By going through the behavior change process with your dog, you and your dog will develop a mutual bond based on trust and respect. You just can’t put a price on that!
